Protect your drain field

Don’t place heavy objects over your tank or drain field—sheds, vehicles, RVs, above-ground pools and more can damage pipes and components.

Watch what goes down the drain

Avoid flushing or draining non-biodegradable items and harsh chemicals. These can clog your system and harm the bacteria that break down waste.

Use the garbage disposal sparingly

Excess food waste can increase solids and contribute to clogs. A little is fine—just avoid heavy use.

Quick “don’t flush” list

These items commonly cause clogs or system damage:

  • Dental floss
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Diapers / wipes (even “flushable” wipes)
  • Cigarette butts
  • Household chemicals / cleaners
  • Bleach (avoid heavy use)
  • Paints, solvents, oils, grease

When to call

  • Slow drains throughout the home
  • Gurgling sounds from plumbing
  • Odours inside or outside
  • Wet spots or unusually green grass near the drain field
  • Sewage backups (urgent)
